You can move backwards while grounded using a precise input sequence: dash back, then quickly point the control stick the other way in a half-circle motion.
Moonwalking can be used to do turnaround aerials or grab the ledge, but in practice, spacies already have better ways to do both of these, so it's mostly for styling on your opponents.
