Unlocks: Shine-turnaround aerial, Ledge regrab aerial, Up-throw up-air

Tags: basics

While it is simple enough to input neutral or down aerials immediately as you leave the ground, doing so with up, forward, and back aerials can feel impossible on a typical grip.

If you try to Up-throw up-air opponents with late aerials, you will notice that you won't quite connect the up-air. Are your hands just too slow? No. In fact, this requires some finesse.

To get the aerial out on frame 1 or 2, you will need to have your thumb already on the C-stick while another finger presses jump. This is usually done with one of four methods:

  • Full claw
  • Hybrid claw
  • Tap jump
  • Z-jump

Experiment and see which method you prefer. High-level Foxes in the current meta lean towards hybrid claw and Z-jump.

Practice tips

  • If you're accidentally getting Jump cancel up-smash, your C-stick input is too quick.
  • Training Mode can tell you which frame in-the-air your aerial began on.
